The Tcheji Mining Company is Angola’s latest diamond mining operation and was formally inaugurated in April this year.
Exploration started in 2011 on a concession area of 635 square kilometres in the provinces of Lunda Norte and Lunda Solo. This exploration indicated reserves of at least 250 000 carats located in more than one location, with a projected production capacity of 3 000 carats per day. This is expected to increase to 6 000 carats with the completion of a new treatment plant early in 2016. Gross monthly revenues of US$1.5-million are projected.
The project involved an initial investment of some $15 million. Diamond mining company Sociedade Mineira do Tcheji will be in charge of exploration, with state-owned diamond group Endiama as well as Oga and Aricon as investors. The shareholders comprise Ipergasta, Somia Yassacama and BK.
Tcheji has a five-year contract with Endiama. In Phase 1 of the project, alluvial diamonds will be exploited, followed by studies on the mining of kimberlites in the concession. The mine currently employs 55 workers, all of whom – including the specialised staff – are Angolans. No less than 80% have been recruited from the local area.
In 2015, Angola produced over nine million carats of diamonds and that level of production is expected to increase because of the launch of the Tcheji project. The precious stones are currently Angola’s number two export, after oil, and the country is one of the world’s top five diamond producers.
Managing and coordinating all these elements that form the lifespan or total Life of Mine (LoM) is an enormous job. LoM includes managing mineral rights (tenements) claims; exploration; drilling; engineering, procurement, construction management (EPCM) for the development phase; actual mining; stockpiles; plant shipping and dispatching; all the way to mine rehabilitation.
xMMP (exploration, Mining & Minerals Processing) is a mining enterprise resource planning solution that covers most of the LOM. It automates management and administration functions of properties for gold, mineral, base metal and oil exploration and mining companies; as well as audit for due diligence, native title negotiation and dispute resolution. This includes core drilling capabilities linked to projects to be ready for the mining development phase.
xMMP includes health and safety, lab information management, treasury, HR/payroll, housing, an interface engine for GIS, SCADA & Weighbridge and more … Our gem management functionality covers the supply chain, and includes purchase and sales agreements to ensure a regular supply of diamonds. The sorting and related functions are crucial links of the chain. The customer relationship manager module inside AX cover the requirement of sales events. In addition, AX – via the enterprise portal – can facilitate “Auctions” through online auction events.
