Healthcare providers are looking to make better use of data through insightful analytics performance to improve and standardise the healthcare supply chain.
According to a recent Global Healthcare Exchange (GHX) survey, harnessing the power of data analytics to inform better decision-making continues to be the main priority for healthcare suppliers and hospitals worldwide.
As the healthcare industry confronts with a growing amount of data, gaining visibility into this data, analysing, and standardising medical and diagnostics processes have become more important than ever.
Data analytics remains a top healthcare supply chain management opportunity. There is a growing interest in predictive analytics identified in the survey, and a focus on faster and improved data-driven decision-making.
In a nutshell, the supply chain areas found of importance in the research included:
- data and analytics for better decision making (59%)
- standardisation of data and business process across the organisation (53%)
- contract optimisation (47%)
- driving integration across supply chain business and clinical processes (42%)
- the broader management of non-labour spend (29%)
The new release of Dynamics 365 for Operations is Microsoft’s new business solution for medium to large organisations. Dynamics 365 for Operations was previously known as AX7 and is a single software system that helps run businesses more effectively. It is a digitally transformed financial and operational ERP system.
According to GHX, supply chain leaders understand how critical quality data is to solving the large issues of cost, quality, and outcomes in healthcare. There is an agreement among top healthcare providers that quality data is critical to steering their organisations’ decision-making, but that it also can improve the efficiency of business processes.
Aside from data analytics, healthcare providers also expressed their interest in the standardisation of business processes across the organisation, as well as improving healthcare supply chain outcomes related to business processes.
Other priorities for this year included procurement, order processing, product standardisation, clinical system integration, contracting, and system integration for mergers and acquisitions where newly acquired clinics have to be fitted into established supply chains.
Healthcare organisations are also considering the reduction of wasteful supply chain spending through supply chain standardisation and data analytics.
As hospitals and health systems continue to optimise their supply chain to address the above concerns, the research confirmed that a data-driven supply chain represents the future of healthcare and the most important metric to determine the optimum cost-quality equation and the overall financial performance of the medical establishments.
The GHX research represents provider organisations that have improved operational performance while reducing costs through supply chain automation.
