Decision Inc. Immix has completed its first Training Academy programme aimed at equipping our new employees with the knowledge and fundamentals of Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations ahead of their Microsoft Certification and further specialisation.
Led by Senior ERP Consultant Jean-Pierre Jooste, a specialist in his field with many years’ experience, this specific training mainly focused on Dynamics 365’s distribution and trade capabilities. Seven trainees attended the first session which took place over the course of two months.
The Training Session
“The main focus of this training was to ensure that each of the trainees could visualise and understand all functional areas that can take place throughout the procurement and sales processes,” said Jooste.
More specifically, the academy focused on providing training on the following areas: configuration and management of products and inventory, customer and vendor relationship, purchase orders management, sales process management.
The training kicked off with a navigation and overview sessions, followed by configuration and master data setups. The initial sessions centred on the specific topics for procuring stock in the business to fulfil future sales.
Jooste explained the importance of accurate data in Dynamics 365: “During any implementation, the detail and accuracy of the data sets and setups are of utmost importance. Configuration and master data, as well as the order in which each of these data sets are setup and implemented in the system is essential to the success of any project plan.”
Aside from the theoretical aspect, the training included personal insights and examples from previous Dynamics 365 implementations, as well as process flow diagrams that illustrate the system capabilities and valuable soft skills from middle and senior management involved in the process.
“The agenda we chose and the schedule we used worked very well to tell a story; each new section added that additional piece to the full puzzle,” added Jooste, who also shared some presentation skills with the trainees to help build their confidence when presenting solutions to clients or colleagues.
All trainees received specific assignments to complete individually in order to practice what they have learned and better understand the Dynamics 365 process flows.
Dynamics 365 is a next generation cloud service launched by Microsoft. It brings together the traditional CRM and ERP functionalities into one application, offering users a host of integrated business modules.
What Immix’ academy students had to say about completing their training:
Immix’ first training academy programme was very successful and well received by all students and its main facilitator.
“It was challenging at times, but it has been a very exciting journey for me. I learned a lot about the product and the different functions of the different modules within Dynamics 365, which I believe will make me a better consultant from a functional perspective,” said Thapelo, one of the junior consultants who attended the training.
“The training was excellent. The trainer made sure that we understand how the processes and functionality within Microsoft D365 work,” said another trainee, Rendani.
According to the students, the Training Academy was a much-needed initiative in the industry, especially for new ERP professionals and tech consultants at large. “I am new to the IT space, so the training academy has given me an opportunity to learn as much as I can with the help of an excellent trainer,” said Nompumelelo.
“It was a very interactive and fruitful session. I have never had this much exposure to ERP (Dynamics 365 specifically) in this much detail before, and I have benefited a lot from this training,” said Tokelo.
The students enjoyed the interactive training and teamwork, knowledge sharing and opportunities, which made an impact on their learning experience.
“As consultants, we are always learning, and each project brings about new and unique challenges. I did not only get to learn about an enterprise level ERP system; I also met new and interesting colleagues,” said John.
Another trainee, Stuart, also commended the trainer and his fellow academy colleagues. “Entering a new field can often be daunting. I am grateful to Jean-Pierre Jooste for going beyond the course material and sharing his knowledge with us as we start the journey on Dynamics 365. I have thoroughly enjoyed being constantly challenged and learning from my colleagues.”
Overall, the training proved invaluable for any consultant at the start of their ERP careers. It provided us with high-impact information structured in short sessions over the two month period. “I think that more practical work experience is still necessary, but this will only happen once you have started working on a project with a client,” commented Jacques, another participant.
The trainees are now looking forward to a mini-project designed specifically for Immix’ Training Academy as it will further assist them in understanding the processes behind ERP project implementation.
